Arsenal vs Ipswich Town predictions
For the last two seasons, Arsenal fans spent much of their time praying that Manchester City would suffer a sudden and dramatic collapse in form.
They have now got their wish. Pep Guardiola’s side have lost nine of their last 12 games in all competitions, and six of their last eight in the Premier League. The problem is, Arsenal are not best positioned to take advantage.
City’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday surely marked the end of their own title chances. But even though the champions now have more modest ambitions for the season, Arsenal find themselves behind Liverpool and Chelsea in the table.
It has, in many ways, been a frustrating first half of the campaign for the Gunners, who have failed to win eight of their first 17 games.
Mikel Arteta’s men have collected 33 points ahead of Friday’s meeting with Ipswich Town. By way of comparison, they had 46 points to their name at this stage in 2022/23, and 39 last term.
And yet Arsenal are still in the race. Liverpool hold a six-point advantage over the north Londoners having played a game fewer. That makes Arsenal outsiders, but it would be unwise to write them off completely.
Crystal Palace proved to be quite the tonic. Arsenal beat the south Londoners 3-2 in the EFL Cup last Wednesday to book their spot in the semi-finals of that competition. They then thrashed the same opponents 5-1 on Saturday to get back on track in the Premier League after back-to-back draws with Fulham and Everton.
“We certainly want it but we have to show it for 10 months. The demands are incredible,” Arteta told Sky Sports when asked about his team’s title chances after the comprehensive victory at Selhurst Park.
"We are not even halfway [through the season]. We are going to try certainly. For us, it's on!"
Arsenal have given themselves little margin for error, so it is absolutely essential they win games like this one. You cannot take anything for granted in the Premier League, but Arsenal deserve to be strong favourites in this post-Christmas clash.

A title challenger meets a relegation contender in this Premier League encounter on Friday night.
Arsenal to win both halves
Ipswich Town suffered their heaviest defeat of the season to date last weekend, going down 4-0 to Newcastle United. Unfortunately for the Tractor Boys, it was an entirely fair result.
Ipswich have now lost four of their last five matches, leaving them in the bottom three ahead of this trip to the capital.
They did triumph when they were last in London, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in November, but it is hard to see a repeat outcome here.

Arsenal will be without Bukayo Saka, whose injury against Crystal Palace was the only negative to emerge from the 5-1 victory.
The England international is one of the Gunners’ best players, but they should cope fine without him in this match at least. We anticipate a pretty comfortable 90 minutes for Arsenal.

Arsenal to win to nil
Only Liverpool have kept more clean sheets than Arsenal in 2024/25 and we expect the latter to register their seventh shut-out when Ipswich come to town.
Arsenal are especially miserly at home. Visitors to the Emirates Stadium have scored a collective six goals this term. Again, only Liverpool have a better record in that regard.
Arsenal are defensively strong in different ways. They are capable of digging in and using a combination of physicality and organisation to shut down opposition attacks.
On occasions like this, they will defend in a more proactive manner. With Arsenal set to dominate possession and push high up the pitch, Ipswich will struggle to create chances.
Even if McKenna’s side do manage to break through the Arsenal backline, it will not be at all easy for them to get the better of David Raya.

Gabriel Jesus to score any time
As recently as a fortnight ago, many Arsenal supporters were wondering whether the time had come to sell Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian had not scored a goal against top-flight opposition since January, when he struck against Nottingham Forest. In fact, that was the only time he had found the net in the Premier League in 2024.
All of a sudden, Jesus is back in form. He notched a hat-trick against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup, then bagged a brace against the same opponents in the league.
Jesus is full of confidence again and Arteta will reward him with another start against Ipswich.
The former Manchester City man has never really been a truly prolific scorer, but he can keep this run going on Friday.
