Manchester United’s need for a left wingback is well known with Luke Shaw out injured while Tyrell Malacia has struggled since his return from a long-term issue.
Diogo Dalot has been forced to play there even though Ruben Amorim has explained that his compatriot is more suited to the right side.
The Portuguese full-back did not cover himself in glory against the Cherries and the head coach has asked INEOS for an early resolution in January.
A lot of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford with Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez one of them with the Spaniard open to leaving his current outfit.
Real want Gutierrez
Amorim has reportedly given his green light for the club to go after the Girona defender with Atletico Madrid also being one of his suitors.
Now, as per Real Madrid Confidencial, Real Madrid are looking to jump for their former star next summer after the uncertainty surrounding their chase for Alphonso Davies.
As per their buyback clause, Gutierrez can be acquired for just €9 million in 2025 with the price rising by a million every summer.
The report also mentions that a “secret clause” inserted into the deal has prohibited Girona from selling the Spain international to arch-rivals Atletico.
Atletico out?
Interestingly, Real also hold a 50% sell-on clause which could see them net half of the sale proceeds should United actually win the transfer race.
“One of the players who is almost always on Real Madrid’s radar is Miguel Gutiérrez. The talented left-back, who moved to Girona after an excellent loan spell with the Catalan club, has grown to become one of the best defenders in La Liga.
“With Miguel Gutierrez as one of the possible signings for the coming summers, Real Madrid have detected the great competition that there is to get his services. This time it is their other great rival: Atletico Madrid.
“The transfer agreement between Real Madrid and Girona would have a “secret clause”. Thanks to this provision, the Merengue bosses can prevent Girona from negotiating with certain clubs, such as Atlético de Madrid.
“The incorporation of the left-back would cost just nine million euros during the summer market of 2025. If this operation does not become a reality, his transfer will continually increase. As things stand, the price to be paid for Girona’s ‘3’ will increase by one million as the seasons go by.
United also in the race
“Some teams such as Manchester United have started the first moves to sign him, unsuccessful approaches to date… which Real Madrid is keeping an eye on: they will take 50% of the player’s final transfer fee.”
The Spain international was one of the standouts from Girona’s historic season last time out, with Gutierrez registering nine assists as well as two goals as his club qualified for the Champions League for the first time.
He has carried his good form into the current campaign, netting twice already while also garnering five assists. He has played both as a left back and a left wingback and is considered a great fit for Amorim’s system.
The 23-year-old has a release clause of €35 million. Whether United trigger the clause in January remains to be seen.
