"Ipswich level at best", "What does he add in this team?" - Fans slam Manchester City star after 1-1 draw against Everton

Manchester City fans on X have questioned Rico Lewis' inclusion in their starting XI after he struggled to make an impact during their 1-1 draw against Everton. The Cityzens' poor run of form continued in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, December 26.

Pep Guardiola's men broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after Bernardo Silva's effort deflected past Jordan Pickford into the bottom-right corner. However, the Toffees rallied back and leveled the scores 22 minutes later after Rico Lewis failed to clear Abdoulaye Doucoure's cross. Iliman Ndiaye took full advantage of this to find the top-right corner with an excellent strike.

Erling Haaland had a golden opportunity to put Manchester City back on top after Savinho won his side a penalty in the 51st minute. However, Pickford saved the former's effort before seeing his rebounded header denied due to an offside call.

Manchester City fans were unhappy with Lewis' performance at right-back. The 20-year-old failed to mark Ndiaye effectively and also created zero chances for his side going forward.

One fan posted:

"I don’t think anyone has benefitted from nepotism in football more than Rico Lewis. Ipswich level at best."

Another fan tweeted:

"Assume I don’t understand football, what does Rico Lewis add in this team? Why is Pep obsessed with starting him all the time? Absolutely ridiculous!"

Other fans reacted below:

"Rico Lewis I'm your biggest fan but you've got to go on loan. This is disgraceful now," one fan insisted.

"Never seen a more nothing player than Rico Lewis," one fan commented.

"“Rico Lewis” was compared to Trent Alexander Arnold… Oh brother," another added.

"Rico Lewis is a liability. What does he offer apart from 5 yard passes?" one fan questioned.

Manchester City's struggles continue after dropping points against Everton

Manchester City's struggles showed no signs of stopping after they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Everton at home. They are currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings with 28 points from 18 games, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool - who have two games in hand.

The Cityzens have now won just one out of their last nine league fixtures, drawing two, and losing six. Before this, they won 16 out of their previous 18 league games, which was vital in their 2023-24 title win. They have also won just one game across competitions from their last 13 games, drawing three, and losing nine.

Manchester City will be hoping to bounce back against Leicester City on Sunday, December 29.
