'Do anything' - What Seamus Coleman did before Erling Haaland missed Man City penalty vs Everton

Seamus Coleman of Everton attempts to interact with Erling Haaland of Manchester City ahead of his penalty during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Everton

Seamus Coleman chats to Erling Haaland ahead of the spot kick which the Manchester City striker missed against Everton

Seamus Coleman admitted he was doing what he could to try and secure a positive result for Everton when he had a word in the ear of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland seconds before the striker missed a penalty in the Boxing Day draw.

The game was level at 1-1 when Savinho won a spot kick, giving Haaland the chance to restore City's lead after Bernardo Silva struck early before Iliman Ndiaye equalised with a smart finish.

But Haaland, who missed a spot kick in the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon, saw his tame effort saved by Jordan Pickford. Coleman, who had been querying the decision, stood next to Haaland and exchanged a word or two before the Norwegian pushed him aside. The Everton captain was booked for his actions and remained tight-lipped on exactly what was said, but admitted he was trying to get in Haaland's head.

"No comment," he said, speaking to Amazon Prime, before expanding. "We came here wanting to get a point and you do anything you can sometimes to win. There was no swearing or anything like that.

"It was a great save by Jordan but these (City) are all top players going through a tough time and what happens on the pitch over 90 minutes is all part of the game."

On the penalty decision itself, he said: "It's difficult, at the time I didn't know if there was much contact but I would like to see it back."

The draw means City have now won just one of their previous 13 games in all competitions.
