Pep Guardiola was put through the emotions once again by his Manchester City side - whose winless run was extended.

Bernardo Silva put the champions ahead before Ilian Ndiaye bought the Toffees level before half-time - which was the end of the goals at the Etihad. It means City remain outside the top four with their only win since late October coming against Nottingham Forest several weeks ago.

Guardiola is struggling to find a winning formula in Manchester, casting doubt over whether they will even make the Champions League. Any hopes of winning the title are effectively gone with the former Barcelona boss hoping to salvage the season.

If that is to happen he'll need his top players - the likes of Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden - to rediscover their top form.

Revealed: Jordan Pickford's two clever moments before saving Erling Haaland penalty

The draw with Everton highlighted the issues within this current City side, who are struggling to break teams down and equally have been unable to hold onto a lead in recent months.

Bernardo spurns opportunity

The Portuguese playmaker put the hosts ahead when his scuffed shot found its way past Jordan Pickford early on. The goal was deserved following their early domination and the former Monaco man then had a chance to double the City lead.

Phil Foden found himself with time and space and played the ball perfectly into Bernardo's path but the 30-year-old chose to take his shot on first time, despite being able to take a touch if necessary.

His effort, with the outside of his foot, fly past Pickford's post with the Everton No 1 choosing to not even dive for the effort, which left Guardiola with his head in his hands.

Toffees equalise

City's failure to make their dominance count after left them exposed and Ndiaye was able to take advantage. A cross into the box evaded two defenders and found its way to the Everton man, who controlled and shot in one movement.

His effort rifled into the top corner with Stefan Ortega simply watching the shot fly by. City's winless run at the moment means there's always a nervous energy around the team and the fans with the Etihad falling silent once they levelled the contest before half-time.

Pep Guardiola saw his team lose a lead once again

It is a feeling Guardiola will have dealt with one time too many already this season and he was left with a look of numbness of his face. He said: “The result is not good… but the performance was brilliant. The first time they arrived, they scored a goal. Of course at the end on the transition we could suffer the defeat”.

Sweating on defeat

Everton, despite having to do a host of defending, were not without their opportunities. In the final moments the Toffees were and had four men against two, but fluffed their lines.

Prior to that Dominic Calvert-Lewin also broke away and looked to make the most of the space in front of him. Guardiola was seen in the background and looked evidently stressed as Everton threatened to steal all three points, which would've seen things go from bad to worse.

Everton had their chances to snatch all three points Don't Miss

Guardiola said after their latest frustrating outing: “Yeah, we have to try, confidence will come with the results because always it is in our mind. The performance against that team was really cool. Defensively, offensively. We shoot a lot in the 18-yard box but unfortunately we couldn’t get the result we wanted.”
