Liverpool have just two fixtures remaining in 2025 as they close in on what could be a big year for the club.
The Reds have made a terrific start to the season and will be hoping that May could end up bringing title number 20 to Anfield.
But there is also a danger that bad news could instead reign supreme in 2025.
As things stand, all three of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to leave Liverpool in the summer.
While Rousing The Kop understands that the Reds are still in negotiations to extend each of the trio’s contracts, a breakthrough has not yet arrived.
That leaves three of the most important members of the Liverpool squad free to speak to clubs abroad from January the 1st. And as that date closes in, the Spanish press have taken a look at what to expect from Real Madrid and Van Dijk.

No Real Madrid move planned for Virgil van Dijk
The biggest saga of the past year or so regarding Liverpool and Real Madrid has obviously been in regard to Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid are planning to ‘attack’ Alexander-Arnold in order to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

However, with Los Blancos suffering a recent, damaging injury to Eder Militao and with David Alaba only just coming back from a long time out, they could do with a new centre-back.
As a result, the idea of Van Dijk moving to the Santiago Bernabeu does not seem completely out of the question.

Nevertheless, according to Marca, the European champions are not thinking about the Liverpool captain as a potential signing.
Interestingly, it’s suggested that Van Dijk is set to sign a new deal which would keep him at Anfield until 2028. Consequently, the only Liverpool player Real have reportedly set their eyes on is Alexander-Arnold.
All signs pointing to Van Dijk renewal
On Thursday, we reported that Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth believes that Van Dijk will stay at Liverpool.
All the signs certainly seem to point to the fact that the 33-year-old will not be leaving this summer.
Had he been freely available on the market, for example, it’s surely unlikely that a club such as Madrid would not be taking more than a passing look at Van Dijk.
He is still operating at the top of his game and Carlo Ancelotti badly needs reinforcements at the back. Van Dijk would be ideal for them.
Instead, it seems as though other clubs know they don’t have a chance. Let’s just hope we get some concrete confirmation of that in the coming weeks.
