'I have no argument' - Pep Guardiola makes Premier League confession after Man City draw

Pep Guardiola was happy with his team's performance, despite seeing them stumble once again against Everton

Pep Guardiola felt his players showed the right mentality in trying to bounce back from Erling Haaland's penalty miss and praised their performance at the Etihad, despite seeing his team booed off.

Some supporters jeered at the final whistle, with City only able to draw 1-1 with Everton as their poor run of form extended to just one win in their last 13 games in all competitions.

They took the lead through Bernardo Silva's early effort, which deflected in off Jarrad Branthwaite, but Iliman Ndiaye pulled Everton level. Savinho won a second-half penalty, but Jordan Pickford saved Haaland's effort and it felt like City struggled to recover from that blow, despite still having 37 minutes to play.

Guardiola was happy with the performance, however, especially against a side who had stopped Arsenal and Chelsea from scoring this month.

"We had to go back mentally. Life is not easy, sport is not easy. When this happened it's okay," Guardiola said of the penalty.

"We created a lot of chances. A team like Arsenal, Chelsea could not score. We created, we did it. It's incredible how they run and fight and do everything. It was not good, but today the case was well played. This is my feeling."

Asked if he felt his side were now starting to lose some of the strong mentality that has defined their recent success, Guardiola said he felt his team had approached the task in the right way.

"No, I think we were very patient," he said. "I think we played [well], except the last two or three actions. We make crosses, crosses and it will happen.

"So I think we were patient. That is the momentum of the season, that is a little bit of the situation. Everything takes more time to make it work.

"With the table, I have no argument. If you ask me about the performance we did what we have done (in the past). Football is about winning, scoring goals and not conceding, and always we’ve done it until the last month and a half. We’re not able to do it.

"But football is about winning, football is about you score goals and you can see it and always we have done it in this season, I would say this last month, month and a half, we are not able to do it."
