Sky Sports journalist Peter Stevenson has detailed Pep Guardiola's reaction towards the end of Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League today (December 26). The reporter explained that he saw the City boss cut a frustrated figure as his side settled for yet another disappointment.
The storm is showing no signs of calming down for Manchester City at the moment. After suffering back-to-back defeats in their last two league games, the Cityzens hosted Everton at the Etihad Stadium, hoping to bounce back with a win.
However, their nightmare caught up with them once again as they failed to get the better of the Toffees and ended up settling for a 1-1 draw. That left a cold atmosphere at the Etihad, which was visible on the faces of not only the players but their manager as well.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Peter Stevenson detailed the look on Pep Guardiola's face as the game approached the final whistle, saying:
“Guardiola looks so frustrated, and, to be honest, weary as well. Climbing out of this decline is proving hard than most people suspected. A lot of City’s play has been ponderous. Players just don’t look confident on the ball.”
The pundit went on to comment on Manchester City's performance during the game.
"Disappointing. Frustrating. Below par,” he said. “All suitable to describe City’s latest setback, which was greeted with a smattering of boos. Despite taking the lead, they never looked convincing against a battling Everton side."
“Haaland’s poor penalty miss summed up City’s day. Everton will take huge encouragement from earning another point against a third top Premier League side on the bounce,” added the journalist.
Today's result means that Manchester City are now winless in their last five games across all competitions. They have won just one of their last 13 games, which all but sums up the terrible campaign they're having this season.
How have Pep Guardiola's Manchester City fared in the Premier League so far this season?
Manchester City are enduring a torrid outing in the Premier League this season amid their failure to deliver decent performances and favorable results. As it stands, they occupy the seventh position in the table, with 28 points from 18 games.
So far, the Cityzens have a disappointing eight victories, four draws and six defeats to their name in the English top flight. They've also scored 30 goals and conceded 26, leaving them with a +4 goal difference.
At this stage, it is safe to conclude that Pep Guardiola's men are technically out of the title race already. They currently trail table-toppers Liverpool by 11 points. This could rise to 17 points if the Reds win both of their games in hand.
