Arsenal are long-term admirers of Wolves’ star Matheus Cunha and have been impressed by his performances this season, but a summer move may be more likely than a January bid.

James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that although Matheus Cunha isn’t currently among Arsenal’s primary targets, the Gunners are long-term admirers of the player.
Arsenal have been impressed by Cunha’s performances this season, and they’re monitoring his situation. With Wolves at risk of relegation, the Gunners could make a move in the summer if they go down.
Yet McNicholas suggests that risk of relegation is also likely to prevent a deal in January. Wolves evidently need all the help they can get in the second half of the campaign, and letting their top scorer leave wouldn’t do much to aid their cause.

Cunha has scored nine goals and assisted a further three in his 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, only playing 19 minutes in Wolves’ League Cup defeat to Brighton.
Those stats are impressive considering Wolves’ woes, sitting 18th in the table with just three wins from those 17 games. Cunha is in the league’s top-10 for goals this season despite generally playing in midfield for a relegation-battling side.
Cunha’s versatility is perhaps another draw, given he’s operated pretty much everywhere for Wolves. As mentioned, he’s primarily played as a midfielder, and nine of his 12 goal contributions have come in that role. But he’s also started at centre-forward and on the wings at times.

It looks like a move is on hold for the time being, and the same goes for other players of interest to Arsenal. McNicholas writes that the Gunners are still interested in both Benjamin Sesko and Nico Williams, but neither are expected to be available in January.
