Cole Palmer produced some more individual magic on Boxing Day, but it wasn’t enough for Chelsea as they suffered a crushing defeat to local rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea recorded a 2-1 home loss against Fulham during Thursday’s festive showdown in the Premier League.
It’s now one point from the last two games for the Blues in the league to halt their momentum and quiet talk of a possible title challenge.
Cole Palmer, 22, put the hosts in front with a fabulous goal. The left-footed attacker dribbled past a couple of defenders before passing the ball through Issa Diop’s legs and into the net. Chelsea supporters compared Palmer to Eden Hazard after his goal.
Unfortunately, visitors Fulham equalised during the second period through Harry Wilson. Rodrigo Muniz then snatched a late win for Fulham with a 95th minute goal.

Cole Palmer now leads Premier Leagiue statistic in 2024
Palmer’s goal versus Fulham, which was taken with supreme nonchalance, was another landmark goal for him. He’s unlikely to take much enjoyment after his team’s defeat, though.
WhoScored claims via X that Palmer has now been directly involved in more Premier League goals this calendar year than any other player in the division. Remarkably, he’s scored a combined total of 39 goals and assists.

Paul Merson in awe of Cole Palmer’s goal
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson thinks Palmer’s goal versus Fulham was a piece of genius.
“He just passes it into the corner from outside the box. It is an unbelievable finish,” Merson told Sky Sports News (3:17pm, 26 December).
“He took possession on the half-turn, two players came to him and he went straight past them. He is some player.”
Like he’s done so regularly in Chelsea colours, Palmer produced an extra bit of finesse where others around him couldn’t in the Fulham match.
Enzo Maresca’s side couldn’t kill the game when they were leading the West London derby. In fairness, Bernd Leno in the Fulham goal had the performance of his life.
