Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has admitted the Premier League title is no longer a target for them after they dropped points against Everton on Thursday.

It's been a horrid run for Pep Guardiola's side, who have recorded just one win in their last 13 games. At the Etihad against the Toffees, things appeared to have taken a turn for the better when Bernardo Silva fired the hosts in front early in the first half.

However, Everton's Iliman Ndiaye put the visitors back on level terms before the break and City struggled to regain the lead thereafter. It was Sean Dyche's side who very nearly clinched all three points right at the death, but the points were ultimately shared.

Liverpool will move 14 points clear of the Manchester club in the standings if they beat Leicester City at Anfield later this evening. City are seventh at the moment, but that could change if Brighton are to record a big win over Brentford on Friday.

With the title firmly out of sight, City have come to terms with the fact they are no longer in the race. Instead, their full focus is on taking things game by game in order to regain some confidence and form.

"The season is not finished but it's not a target for us at the moment," Akanji said after the game. "We need to focus game by game and the next game against Leicester City will not be easy as well now, in the shape we are in.

"We need to focus on the positives. We did a lot of things great. We defended well and we attacked well, but were not able to finish as well as we wanted to or we could have scored three or four goals."
