Where Chelsea must finish in Premier League table to trigger Jadon Sancho buy clause and the cost - journalist

Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United last summer, with the Blues having an obligation to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Jadon Sancho, 24, has definitely added some value to the Chelsea squad, becoming the main option to start on the left wing. He’s hardly putting up gigantic attacking output, though.

In 21 games across all competitions this campaign for the Blues, the Englishman has scored two goals and created six assists.

Chelsea retain faith that Sancho can become a ‘superstar’, even though he’s not quite kicking on yet at Stamford Bridge.

Where Chelsea must finish in Premier League to trigger Jadon Sancho buy clause and the price

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed via X that there is an obligation for Chelsea to buy Sancho from Man Utd providing they finish 15th or higher in the Premier League this season.

Understand Jadon Sancho took a significant pay cut to join Chelsea on-loan from Manchester United. There is an obligation to buy providing #CFC finish 15th or better. Sancho’s wage is roughly split between the clubs.🔵

Therefore, it looks like the English attacker will officially become a Blues player next season because his side sits fourth in the Premier League table after 24 games.

On top of that, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports via his YouTube channel that Chelsea will end up paying Man Utd somewhere around £22-25m for Sancho at the end of the season.

Romano said: “I can guarantee you that Chelsea are still very happy with the signing of Jadon Sancho. The obligation to buy is not in doubt. That’s not going to change; it’s just the amount of money based on add-ons that will change based on the final position of Chelsea in the Premier League table.

“But he’s going to be a Chelsea player by the end of the season… Between £22-25m based on the final position for Chelsea.”

Enzo Maresca said his Chelsea wingers, including Sancho, need to score more goals. Let’s see if anyone can answer the calls of the Blues head coach during the remainder of the season.

Sancho once had a 20-goal season in Borussia Dortmund colours back in the 2019/20 campaign, so we know he’s capable.

Jadon Sancho desperately needs to find form

Speaking earlier in February, John Obi Mikel criticised Chelsea’s Sancho for a loss of form.

The skilful winger hasn’t scored or assisted in his last six appearances across all competitions, which highlights how quiet he’s been as an attacking force.

In fairness, the Chelsea forward line as a unit looks a lot less threatening than earlier in the season. It’s going to need wingers such as Sancho, Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto to kick them back into gear with a greater impact in wide areas.

Hopefully, Sancho can play himself back into form when the Blues travel to Brighton on Friday night for a league fixture.
