Manchester United’s season might be floundering but some overt satisfaction can be found for the fans as they have another reason to revel in a rival club’s misery.
Manchester City received a hammer blow to their season’s prospects after losing 3-2 at home to Real Madrid in a do-or-die Champions League playoff.
They now face the daunting task of heading to Santiago Bernabeu trying to overturn a deficit against effectively the final boss of European football.

Wayne Rooney makes Man City jibe
When one thinks about iconic Manchester derbies and the best goals ever, it is impossible to skim over Wayne Rooney’s iconic bicycle kick at Old Trafford.
It has entered into the Premier League and Man Utd folklore but it’s not the only time Rooney tormented United’s city rivals.
In fact, Man City was one of Rooney’s favourite teams to score against, a mark of a player who relished making an impact on the biggest occasion.
Throughout his career playing for Everton and Man Utd, Rooney netted against City 12 times in all competitions, adding three assists in 31 games.

Before the kick-off for City vs Madrid, Rooney didn’t miss the opportunity to remind the Cityzens of his exploits at their stadium.
He said (via Amazon Prime sport video): It’s a stadium that I’ve scored a lot of goals in, so I’m sure I’ll get a really nice welcome.”
Man Utd need Rooney-like big-game players
Ruben Amorim has somewhat started fixing United’s issue of not turning up for big games that was persistent under Erik ten Hag with some statement results.
A draw at Anfield, a win at Man City and knocking out Arsenal of the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium are all extremely appreciable achievements.
However, the team’s inconsistency clearly speaks to a mentality issue in the Man Utd squad still, something that the likes of Wayne Rooney lived and breathed.
