“They’ve Got Too Much Quality”–Sheringham Delivers Positive Verdict On Man City’s Champions League Hopes

**Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham still believes Manchester City will seal Champions League qualification despite Pep Guardiola’s side experiencing a difficult campaign.**

Speaking to [_Finaria.it_](https://www.finaria.it/notizie/2025-02-11/teddy-sheringham-exclusive/), Sheringham said that the experience the Premier League champions possess will end up being crucial during the run-in:

“I think they’ve got too much quality in their ranks to not qualify for Europe at all. I would still expect them to finish in the Champions League spots. It might be fourth, might even be third, but I would still expect it just because of the know-how, it becomes a long hard season when you get into the last two months.

“That’s when the season starts as such, when you are challenging for trophies, when you’re at the end of the season. From their perspective, it hasn’t even started, when the real pressure comes. Nottingham Forest haven’t been there, Bournemouth haven’t been there, Newcastle don’t know about it.  Man City will grind results out, they’ll run people down.”

City spent heavily during the January transfer window and Sheringham thinks that the club’s new signings could prove influential during the closing weeks of the campaign:

“I would fully expect Man City to be in the mix and doing that at the end of the season, that’s another two months’ time for the new players to bed in and understand what’s expected of them.”

What is the current state of play in the Premier League?

--------------------------------------------------------

The Cityzens are 5th in the table on 41 points, level with Newcastle and 2 points adrift of Chelsea in the final Champions League spot.

Nottingham Forest are (quite incredibly) 6 points ahead of them at the moment, with 14 matches remaining.

The statisticians are backing City to finish 3rd

------------------------------------------------

Despite currently being quite far behind Forest, Opta believe that Guardiola’s men will end up above the Tricky Trees at the end of the season.

The stat boffins have predicted that the reigning champions will finish in 3rd place on 68 points. You can look at where other teams will finish in the [**predicted table here**](https://mancitynews.com/supercomputer-predicts-final-2024-25-premier-league-table-4/).
