Manchester United legend Gary Neville has issued a clear warning to Ruben Amorim over his tactics at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager came in from Sporting Lisbon, having completely changed the landscape of the club, winning five trophies in four years.

A very similar result was needed for United, with the club experiencing their worst records in the Premier League and Europe ever.

However, Amorim’s arrival with his 3-4-3 formation and dynamic and intense playstyle hasn’t yielded the results Sir Jim Ratcliffe was hoping for as of yet.

Since taking charge, Amorim has managed United for 20 matches, grabbing 10 wins, two draws and eight losses.

Breaking it down further, his Premier League results are the real concern, with only four wins in 13 games, yet seven losses and two draws.

Thankfully his results in the FA Cup and Europa League have brought the totals up, having won every outing in both competitions.

However, this further goes to show the lack of consistency currently at Old Trafford.

As such, The Mirror has reported that some unnamed United stars have held talks over the potential of the manager making light tweaks to his tactics for the better of the club.

Now, Gary Neville has weighed in on Amorim’s determined nature in sticking by his plans amid the rumblings of concerns in the dressing room.

Gary Neville comments on Ruben Amorim’s determination to stand by his tactics

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said: “They’re obviously going to stick with Ruben Amorim, but the more you lose, the more difficult it is to convince the players of the idea. The idea that he talked about in the early days.”

He continued: “You need the players to buy into it, but if they lose with it, and they keep getting criticised, the spotlight comes on them more and the fans are leaving unhappy.

“You can’t keep losing. It will depress the thoughts of the players, to the point whereby they’ll lose faith with the idea. It’ll damage the start of next season. He has to do something.

“He can’t change his approach because he’s died in a ditch on it. And rightly so. I think he’s lost more games at Manchester United since he’s come than he lost in the last 75 at Sporting.”

Whilst its clear his tactic worked impressively well with Sporting, United are still adjusting with the current squad having been assembled for a very different formation under Erik ten Hag.

However, with around £600 million spent on the current squad in the last two and a half years alone, United will be keen for Amorim to fully utilise the potential in the squad if sales can’t be made.
