Manchester United set to miss out on transfer target

Manchester United travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in a potentially pivotal Premier League match on Sunday afternoon.

Both the Red Devils and the Lilywhites are enduring torrid seasons, with the two sides currently sitting 13th and 14th respectively in the top flight table.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure having seen his side exit both domestic cup competitions over the past ten days, while United head coach Ruben Amorim has overseen just four wins from his 13 Premier League matches in charge of the club so far.

Off the pitch, it appears that Spurs and United could both miss out on a Bundesliga star that they have both shown interest in.

TBR Football claims that Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is likely to join Spanish side Barcelona when his contract expires this summer.

The 29-year-old is in the final six months of his current deal with the German champions and isn’t expected to extend his stay with the club, meaning he will likely be available as a free agent this summer.

The report claims that both United and Spurs had shown interest in the Germany international, however Barcelona are in pole position to land the centre-back.

Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United are all also said to have shown interest in the German, who helped Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title last term.

Tah joined Leverkusen from fellow German side Hamburg in 2015 and has since played more than 380 times for the club across all competitions.

The report claims that Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is pushing to sign the German defender this summer, having failed to lure him to Catalonia last year.

The 33-time Germany international made 20 league appearances for Leverkusen last year as lifted the German top flight title for the first time ever.
