Chido Obi set for Arsenal showdown, Man Utd wonderkid earns new challenge with 15th goal of the season

Manchester United sensation Chido Obi is living up to the hype.

Last summer Manchester United pulled off a coup with a raid on Arsenal to sign their best young striker, Chido Obi.

United later followed this up with a move for their prize centre-back talent Ayden Heaven in January.

Obi scored 32 goals at under-18s level last season at just 16, and he is motoring towards another big tally this season too.

The teenager, now 17, did not make his Manchester United academy debut until October due to red-tape delaying his start, and he has not looked back.

Chido Obi sets up Arsenal clash

Chido Obi powered Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup victory over Chelsea in the fifth round, a 5-1 victory.

Obi netted a hat-trick as Manchester United crushed their opponents, with James Scanlon scoring a brace.

United have scored five goals in each round, beating Coventry and Preston in previous matches, before the victory over Chelsea.

Obi has scored seven goals in these games, a brace in each of the previous, before his treble against Chelsea.

Up next? A showdown with Chido Obi’s former club Arsenal.

The two teams do not usually meet at under-18s level, with the leagues separated by north and south, and this will be the teenager’s first match-up against his former club.

The game is a huge challenge for the teenager in terms of how he handles it, amid calls for him to be called up to the first team.

Arsenal fans were upset at his departure, and the match away at his former club could see a few insults hurled his way. Perhaps he responds by kissing the badge in celebration.

13 of these goals have come for United’s under-18s, with seven of those coming in three matches in the FA Youth Cup.

Obi has also scored two goals in his brief opportunities at under-21 level. He also has a further two assists, one for the 18s and one at 21s.
