One of Manchester United’s loan players has been dealt a fresh injury blow

It was a busy January for Manchester United on the departure front with a host of players heading out on loan during the window. A mix of regulars from the senior squad departed along with some of the club’s younger players, who have left Old Trafford to gain valuable experience in the EFL.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have left on loan and are not expected to play for United again while the club’s younger players will return at the end of the season hoping to have done enough to prove their worth to Ruben Amorim ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

The likes of Ethan Wheatley and Dan Gore have gone down the league pyramid for experience with the former joining runaway League Two leaders Walsall. He has made three appearances for the club but has not featured in the last two games.

Injury blow for Gore

Gore has played just once so far for Rotherham United after his move to the South Yorkshire club was confirmed on January 31. He made his debut against League One leaders Birmingham City the following day, providing an assist as the Millers lost 2-1.

However, he has not played in the last two matches and it has now been revealed the 20-year-old midfielder has suffered a foot injury. Speaking after Rotherham drew 0-0 at Blackpool, Millers boss Steve Evans said to the Rotherham Advertiser: "The kid's devastated. He's such a talent. I had a beer with some of the Birmingham staff after the game at St Andrew's and the only player they spoke about was Dan. It's his little one-twos, his give-and-goes, that little bit of class. We'll miss him over the next few weeks but he'll still be a part of it if we get him back fit."

Evans frustration at injury

Gore’s first missed game was against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday and he was set to feature as Evans added: "I was frustrated at the weekend. We'd worked on the team for two days before Shrewsbury and it changed at 9am on Saturday morning. The kid trained really well and didn't feel a thing. He was going to play a big part for us and then, after he'd gone home, he spoke to the head of medical and said he was feeling his foot.

"That was at about 6.30/7 o'clock on Friday evening. Quite rightly, he gets medication prescribed, it gets delivered to him and he takes it. But he wakes up in the morning and his foot is more sore. That's why he's seeing someone. Nobody is more devastated than me. I worked really hard to get him here. He had three clubs above us in League One who wanted but he chose us because of the football I convinced him he would get."

Gore’s first loan spell came last season as he joined Port Vale last January but only made one appearance for the club as he picked up an injury. He spent the first half of this campaign out with a shoulder problem which prevented him from going on loan anywhere between August and December.

In other news, United have included young goalkeepers Elyh Harrison and William Murdock in first-team training ahead of their trip to face Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.
