Roy Keane has opened up about the moment in his Manchester United career that left him in tears.
Keane had spent 12 years at the Old Trafford club, where he won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League.
Despite his key role in winning all that silverware, the Corkman’s contract was terminated in November 2005 after a falling out with then-manager Alex Ferguson.
Keane was speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by [Sky Bet](https://m.skybet.com/), when he said: “When I left United, I did cry that morning. Cried in my car.”
The United and Ireland legend went on to play for Celtic before he hung up his boots in June 2006 and went into management, first with Sunderland early in the 2006/07 season.
More recently, he has worked as assistant manager to Martin O’Neill in the senior Ireland set-up and again at Nottingham Forest.
It was after a spell at Forest that Keane was transferred to Manchester United in 1993 - and despite his time at both clubs he isn’t a fan of either side.
“I don’t have that affinity with the clubs I’ve played for. I don’t support Manchester United. I don’t support Nottingham Forest,” he said.
“I have more of an insight with how it works at the (Manchester United) and the expectations, but I wouldn’t say that I’m a fan – their results don’t make or break my weekend.
“I wouldn’t go home going, ‘Get in there, that was a great win’. I’d be looking at it in a professional way.”
