One potential defensive target who has been linked with the Premier League is Sam Beukema.
The Dutchman has impressed for Bologna this season, making 22 appearances in Serie A.
He has also featured six times in the UEFA Champions League, gaining valuable experience.
Beukema recently spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about his future and his ambitions.
He mentioned his dreams of playing for the Dutch national team but also referenced Manchester United.
The 26-year-old admitted to being a regular viewer of United matches, saying:
“Josh and I are always in touch, even this morning.
“We don’t just talk about football, but about life.
“I always watch Manchester United.”
Joshua Zirkzee, a former teammate, was also brought up in the interview.
Sam Beukema added: “We have a chat with him and Ndoye and others, there’s a really strong friendship between all of us.
“There was a chemistry between us, which still exists today, huge, unique.”
These comments will certainly add some encouragement to potential United transfer rumours.
Beukema has been linked with Liverpool in recent months and previously expressed admiration for West Ham.
Reports have suggested Arne Slot even attempted to sign him at Feyenoord before his move to Bologna.
At 26, Beukema represents an interesting option – experienced but still at a good age for further development.
United must strike the right balance between top-class experience and younger players.
They cannot afford to have an overemphasis on inexperience, as it will eventually show in high-pressure moments.
