Manchester United handed boost in pursuit of £83 million-rated Portuguese wonderkid

Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP attacking sensation Geovany Quenda.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United could end up winning the race for the services of Geovany Quenda as he is keen on making the move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have received a massive boost in their pursuit as the teenager wants to reunite with the Portuguese manager.

Quenda joined Sporting CP back in the summer of 2019. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team ahead of the ongoing season. Ruben Amorim handed him his debut for the Portuguese club before he ended up moving to Manchester United ahead of the winter transfer window.

Sporting CP were doing wonders under Amorim, but things have not been that great for both since they parted ways. The Portuguese manager has not been able to get the desired results at Old Trafford. Despite the struggles, the Red Devils did not rush into making too many moves in the winter window.

Manchester United only wanted to make strategic moves that could help them in the long run. As a result, they ended up signing Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu. The Red Devils will be much more active in the summer window, but even then the focus will be on signing young stars for the short as well as the long run.

Quenda is one of the players on their wishlist. Since breaking into their first team, the teenager has featured in a total of 37 matches and has even contributed towards nine goals. While he prefers playing as a right-back or as a right-wing-back, he can feature as a winger as well as a number ten.

Quenda wants to re-unite with Amorim

While Quenda’s contract at Sporting CP runs until the summer of 2027, Manchester United could soon make a move to sign him. Amorim is a huge admirer of the youngster and wants to reunite with him at Old Trafford. He might have added Dorgu to his team, but the Portuguese manager still has a place for Quenda in his plans.

The 17-year-old is not yet ready to be a first-team regular and since both of them can feature on either flank, they can co-exist. Manchester United have a massive boost in their pursuit of his signature as the player himself wants to play under Amorim at Old Trafford.

The teenage sensation wants to play under the coach who handed him his debut. His agent Jorge Mendes is already in talks with Manchester United regarding a summer move. While the player is projected to a massive £83 million, it is very likely that a lower fee could be agreed with Quenda pushing for the move.
