Tottenham star who destroyed Man United set to miss clash in boost for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United will resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon with a trip to face fellow strugglers Tottenham.

The Red Devils have no choice but to prioritise cup competitions this season. Winning the Europa League appears to be Manchester United’s only route back into the Champions League.

That is because United’s form in the Premier League has been extremely disappointing with 11 defeats in 24 games so far. Ruben Amorim wants to win the Premier League at United, but the team he inherited has underwhelmed.

United sit 13th in the Premier League table and on Sunday they will face Tottenham who sit two points beneath in 14th.

Amorim has finally had more time in training this week, with a nine-day gap since United were last in action against Leicester City in the FA Cup. United players were kept to train at Old Trafford after the Leicester match – Amorim will want to see improvement against Spurs.

What happened when Man United met Tottenham this season

United have already played Tottenham twice this season and have lost on both occasions.

Amorim’s United lost 4-3 to Tottenham in December, marking the end of our Carabao Cup campaign. Amorim said United lacked physicality against Spurs, so he will want to address that this time around.

United were also struggling with set pieces, with Altay Bayindir conceding directly from a corner with two minutes remaining. Andre Onana will likely start this time around.

Before that, Erik ten Hag’s United side lost 3-0 to Tottenham back in September, with Bruno Fernandes controversially sent off in the first half.

Tottenham scored after just three minutes, with Gary Neville hailing Micky van de Ven as “brilliant” after he made a bursting run to set up Brennan Johnson.

Micky van de Ven a doubt to face Man United

Van de Ven was ruled out against United for the Carabao Cup quarter-final clash, and it seems the Dutch defender will be missing once again on Sunday.

According to the Daily Mail, Van de Ven is expected to miss out for Tottenham amid ongoing concerns with his hamstring.

Van de Ven’s absence is a boost for United and Amorim, but Tottenham stars Brennan Johnson, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert are all in contention to return.

Spurs do have ready replacement for Van de Ven, though, after signing Kevin Danso over the winter window.

United will be without Lisandro Martinez following his knee injury, while Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will continue their spell on the sidelines.
