Manchester United are expected to move for a striker in the summer, however, one player who is now unlikely to arrive at Old Trafford is Viktor Gyokeres.

The Red Devils are assessing their options for the number nine role as Ruben Amorim is keen to add more goals to his team.

United have already invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but the two young strikers have failed to make the grade in Manchester.

Gyokeres, also linked with Chelsea and Arsenal, was expected to be an option they moved for given his time under Amorim at Sporting but there is a key reason why the Premier League giant won’t be moving for him.

Why Manchester United won’t be making a move for Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are unlikely to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to The Athletic.

The striker himself is keen to move to a club playing Champions League football and for Ruben Amorim’s side, that seems highly unlikely at this stage.

Meanwhile, United are also not so keen on investing in a player who is due to turn 27 in June with the club targeting younger players.

Sporting are understood to be willing to sell the Swedish international for around £58 million despite him having a £83m release clause.

Liam Delap and Benjamin Sesko are seen as more probable targets given their age, although the latter is set to be expensive and Arsenal are also chasing him.

Would Viktor Gyokeres still be a good option for Arsenal or Chelsea?

Gyokeres remains a top option for both clubs who should not be put off signing an elite striker just because of his age.

The 26-year-old’s goal-scoring record is just phenomenal this season having netted 34 goals in 35 matches in all competitions.

Both London clubs are likely to be able to offer him Champions League football next season making them very attractive options for the striker.
