Ex-Manchester United star Paul Pogba is nearing a return to football.

Speculation on where the future of former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba lies continues, amid reports suggesting that a reunion with ex-United teammate David De Gea could be a possibility.

Pogba has been without a club since leaving Juventus, back in December. He's coming to the end of an 18-month ban from football, after testing positive for banned substance DHEA, and is due to return in March.

Spanish publication Fichajes indicate that Italian side, Fiorentina, are willing to offer the midfielder an opportunity. Any proposed move there would see him link up with ex-United goalkeeper and teammate De Gea.

The Spaniard signed for Fiorentina as a free agent back in the summer, with his deal running until the end of the current term. Before moving to the club, De Gea had been a free agent for over a year, after leaving Old Trafford when his last contract there expired.

If any offer comes to Pogba from the Italian side remains to be seen, but there have also been reports of another possible reunion for the midfielder. It is suggested that Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are also looking to make a move for the free agent, which would see him link up with former United forward Mason Greenwood.

That's a possible move that Greenwood has already endorsed. "He's a great man, professional, who has taken me under his wing," Greenwood said.

"He's a top player. Any team in Europe would love to have him. If he came here it would be great."

Greenwood is not the only former United man to talk about Pogba as a person in recent times. Another former United player in Jesse Lingard took to social media on Wednesday to hit back at claims that himself, Pogba and Marcus Rashford "destroyed the culture" at United.

"Please explain how me Paul [Pogba] and Marcus [Rashford] destroyed Manchester United's culture?" He asked on social media platform X (was Twitter).

He then added in a separate post: "Lol we was just enjoying our life as we played for biggest club in the world, of course we made mistakes, and we learn, but we gonna have fun and smile and dance."

Lingard departed United on a free transfer back in the summer of 2022. He spent a season with Nottingham Forest, before spending some time out of the game. The 32-year-old returned to football in February last year - completing a move to South Korean side FC Seoul.
