Man Utd ace told by club president it'makes sense'why he did not sign for them, nine-word message speaks volumes

A club president of one team in Europe’s top five leagues has now spoken out about their failed attempt to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford made his exit from Old Trafford during the January transfer window after he fell out of favour under Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old left the Red Devils ahead of the window shutting on 3rd February and Rashford completed a loan move to Premier League side Aston Villa.

Aston Villa did not pay a loan fee for the transfer and the Premier League club is covering a majority of Rashford’s wages during the spell.

United have included an option to buy Rashford for £40m, with the Red Devils and England player making his debut for Villa last weekend in the FA Cup.

Rashford came off the bench in the second half of the fourth-round FA Cup tie and had a steady cameo in the 2-1 win over Tottenham at Villa Park last Sunday.

Rashford linked with one surprising club

Marcus Rashford had attracted interest from European clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and AC Milan amid uncertainty around his Manchester United future.

Ruben Amorim dropped Rashford for the 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad last December and the United player hinted at a move away from Old Trafford.

Serie A outfit Como was one surprising club that was linked with the United loanee ahead of Rashford’s transfer to Aston Villa.

The Italian club earned promotion to Serie A at the end of the 2023-24 campaign and Como are currently 16th in the league table under manager Cesc Fabregas.

Como president Mirwan Suwarso has broken his silence over the Serie A side’s failed signings amid the interest in Rashford and AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez.

When asked if Como pursued the likes of Rashford and Theo Hernandez, Mirwan Suwarso told Sky Italia: “We tried to do our best to give our coach the players he needed for his style of football.

“We analysed our needs and, when possible, we tried to resolve them. You have read about many names.

“Well, not all of them, but many were true. We were close to many players, some of whom did not leave.”

Suwarso on Como’s failed Rashford transfer

Mirwan Suwarso admitted that it made “sense” why players would turn down Como and pointed to the club’s lack of Champions League football as one key example.

“Yes, we tried, but we are also aware that we are a small club, so there are people who still do not take us seriously,” he added, as per Goal.

“When these big names hear about Como, they say, ‘No, I want to play in the Champions League.’

“This makes sense, we understand well what we can and cannot do. We dream. As human beings, this is what always makes us move forward.

“Every day we look forward to something bigger, every day we try to do something better than the day before.”
