Gary Neville was once rejected by Leicester City over Filbert Fox ordeal

During Gary Neville’s playing career, he was always loyal to Manchester United.

Neville is the epitome of a one-club man having amassed 600 appearances for Man United, winning a remarkable eight Premier League titles.

The former England international was a fixture of Sir Alex Ferguson’s dominant side and he formed a great partnership with David Beckham down the right flanks for many years.

So, realistically, Neville was never going to play for anyone else other than his boyhood club, however, years after hanging up his boots, he did get rejected by Leicester City.

But, not for what you may think, in fact, it was earlier this season at a fixture between Leicester and rivals Nottingham Forest.

Gary Neville rejected by Leicester City over Filbert Fox ordeal

Back in October, when Leicester played Nottingham Forest, Gary Neville revealed on Sky Sports that the club wouldn’t allow him to wear the Filbert Fox costume.

“You know Sky asked Leicester if I could go in the fox costume and they said no,” he shared, while laughing.

Jamie Carragher responded: “Well Filbert takes it really seriously. Honestly, these mascots deserve the money. I mean, I was in there for 15 minutes putting it on then 15 minutes taking it off.

“And it’s a big rivalry. We know it’s a big derby game this, and there is a big rivalry between the mascots as well. So I’ve got one in there for Nottingham Forest.”

It was an evening to forget for Leicester

Whilst it was all fun and games with Neville and Carragher before the game, it quickly turned sour at the King Power stadium that evening.

Leicester suffered a 3-1 defeat to their East Midlands rivals and the away fans even taunted them with Steve Cooper chants.

Cooper was already becoming unpopular at this time, so it just rubbed more salt into the wounds, as City’s two-game winning streak came to an end.

Ultimately, perhaps that was the turning point for Cooper, who ended up losing his job just weeks later.
