Retired Manchester United star believes Marcus Rashford has 'burnt his bridges' at Old Trafford

Teddy Sheringham doesn't believe there is a way back to Manchester United for on-loan striker Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old joined Aston Villa last month for the remainder of the season, with Villa reportedly holding an option to buy the 60-times capped England international in the summer.

Rashford sought a move away from Old Trafford following acrimonious relationships with current Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim and his predecessor Erik ten Hag, both of whom shunned the Manchester-born attacker from the first team.

For former Man United star Sheringham, the problem is bigger than whomever the current boss is at the club, as he feels that Rashford has poisoned the well with his boyhood side and needs to focus all his energy on succeeding with his new club.

"I think Rashford’s burnt his bridges at the club," Sheringham told finaria.it. "As soon as he started talking about leaving the football club, that’s when he needs to start firing on all cylinders for Aston Villa. That's where he's laid his hat as such.

"He needs to start doing the business now because if he doesn't do it there, who takes him after that? Because for me, he was at the best club in the world. Now, he's going downhill. Obviously, they're above them at the moment, but it's not a bigger football club. Even with Champions League football, you can't compare the two clubs.

"No, but he needs to start performing, otherwise he's going to start blaming other people again."
