‘We knew’…Real Betis star speaks out on Antony impact as Manchester United loanee scores again

Manchester United winger Antony is continuing to enjoy a bright start on loan at Real Betis.

Antony scored again for Real Betis, this time in their Europa Conference League match against Gent, a 3-0 away victory.

The Manchester United loanee now has two goals in his opening three matches for the Spanish side, following his move in the transfer window.

It is a dream start for a player who has man of the match performances in both of his La Liga appearances to date.

Giovani Lo Celso on Antony

Antony’s early success in Spain may have caused a few surprises. His performances for Manchester United this season had been poor.

The trouble was, there was no faith placed in him either. Antony was not selected to start a single Premier League game.

Combine this with the heavy criticism he faced, largely focused on his transfer fee, and it was clearly time to move on.

New Real Betis teammate Giovani Lo Celso, formerly of Tottenham, is not surprised at all by Antony’s performances.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Lo Celso told Estadio Deportivo: “We knew that with Antony’s arrival we were getting a great player, with a lot of quality and who could help us a lot.

“I think he is having a great performance and I think that, in general terms, the team has been very good today and has shown that we are still on our feet.”

United agreement on track

Manchester United have set parameters to the Antony loan, insisting Real Betis play him for a specified number of minutes.

The Spanish side have obliged so far, and they have no reason to change, due to his impressive early form.

Antony’s two goals for Betis have already eclipsed his tally for United this season, a sole penalty scored against Barnsley.
