Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been told how to answer questions over Marcus Rashford during the winger's loan spell at Aston Villa.

Rashford's long-standing relationship with United came to a temporary halt this month following his loan signing with Aston Villa until the summer. The forward's rapport with Reds boss Amorim had deteriorated beyond repair when the move to Villa Park was finalised.

MEN Sport understands that Rashford preferred a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants were not open to negotiating a deal until the summer. With staying at Old Trafford until the end of the season off the table, the forward opted to join forces with Unai Emery, who had personally expressed a desire to work with Rashford.

And former Reds full-back Paul Parker believes any questions over Rashford's performances in Birmingham should be put to Villa boss Emery, not Amorim. However, he also acknowledges that the Portuguese will inevitably be asked about the United academy graduate.

“I think Ruben Amorim definitely wants to move on from the Marcus Rashford discourse, but I think the problem is that journalists are using it as a way to try and beat him,” he said.

“People are looking for reasons to have a go at him and take digs at him. Everyone important at the club knows he’s gone and should be moving on, so the manager shouldn’t be asked about it all the time.

“I’m quite sure that over the next few days, a journalist will ask him about Marcus Rashford’s performance for Aston Villa when he came on against Tottenham on Sunday. That’s how journalism is at this moment in time – it’s in my head at the moment and I’m not even a journalist!

“Amorim should say that they should be asking Unai Emery that question, not him, but that’s what being the manager of Manchester United is about – people are trying to beat you with a stick all the time when things aren’t going well.”
