Man Utd youngster Chido Obi shone in the victory over Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.

Ruben Amorim says Chido Obi is on his Manchester United radar after his hat-trick heroics in the Youth Cup victory over Chelsea earlier this week.

The 17-year-old has netted 12 goals in 12 appearances since he joined United from Arsenal last summer, including three goals in their impressive comeback win during midweek. Obi's scoring heroics have not gone unnoticed at a time when United are struggling for goals at senior level, with Amorim eager to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

It might be too soon for the Danish teenager to be handed an opportunity at first-team level but Amorim admits the youngster is on his radar and took part in training this week amid their ongoing injury issues.

Chido Obi on the radar

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, Amorim was asked about the recent performance of Chido Obi and whether he was an option for the first-team.

"I don't want to say names. We have to be careful on that. We had some problems this week," the United head coach revealed. "We called some players to be in our training so we have the data and evaluation and he is one of them."

Earlier in the month, Amorim admitted he was keeping tabs on Obi but suggested he would not consider him for selection until the end of the season, either in their lucrative post-season trip to Malaysia or their pre-season tour to the United States.

"He's doing his job. He’s improving, he’s playing in the youth teams, and also we have other players who can play that position," he said last week. Rasmus and Josh are there. We bought these two players, we need to improve them, and sometimes the confidence can change a player. We will see in the end of the season. But until then we have two strikers who can score goals, they’ve proved in the past, so let’s see if we can improve as a team to help them to score goals."
