Ruben Amorim hails under-pressure Ange Postecoglou, explains major difference with Manchester United job

Manchester United take on Tottenham this weekend with both Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou under intense pressure.

A look at the Premier League table will tell you why the managers of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are under pressure, however, Ruben Amorim only arrived at Old Trafford in November.

Poor results add to the pressure at this level in football and Ange Postecoglou has had more time building his Tottenham side, which has been hit with a heavy injury crisis, especially in defence.

Tottenham are reminiscent to United last season when Erik ten Hag was unable to keep his players fit. They are positioned 14th in the Premier League standings, which is just one place behind United, as seen below.

A win could take United closer to the top half of the table, but a significant winning run – on top of results elsewhere – is required to get into the European spots.

Tottenham have already beaten United twice this season – once at Old Trafford in the Premier League, as well as a Carabao Cup triumph in London.

This will be Amorim’s second time facing Postecoglou since arriving in England.

Ruben Amorim is a fan of Ange Postecoglou

Amorim has revealed that he is a big fan of Postecoglou.

The United head coach was asked about his upcoming opponent and whether he sees a connection between their management styles.

Amorim and Postecoglou are both sympathetic managers who are renowned for sticking to their philosophies.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Amorim said: “I am a huge fan of Ange Postecoglou. He is a good guy, a very good coach.

“I understand the connection with me and Ange. We have the same problem. In my opinion, and with respect, I am at a bigger club, with bigger pressure, and I think coaches must follow their principles.”

The question at Tottenham is whether Postecoglou’s principles are hurting the team, especially whilst sat in the bottom half of the league table and out of both domestic cup competitions.

Amorim added: “He wants to play football in the right way and that’s a good thing. We know when we choose this profession. there are a lot of good things, but you have to feel the pressure when you don’t win”

Manchester United better away from home

United’s first team will be on the road again this weekend but the away form has been better than our home form this season.

That bodes well ahead of Sunday’s trip to London when a defeat would push United further down the table.

When asked whether United are better away from home, Amorim said: “I feel it in the game and the performance because you see it, I see it. Sometimes when you are the underdog, especially in big games, that is a thing we should not feel in any game because we are Manchester United.

“But I feel the players are more free. But when you have to win the game, you have to be more dominant in every aspect of the game – and I feel the team is not quite there. Sometimes the feeling is different when we play away.”
