Jamie Vardy made feelings on his future clear as Manchester United speculation now surrounds…

Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy is set to be available as a free agent this summer as things stand.

The Foxes snapped up Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town in 2012 in a £1m deal that has proven to be one of the signings of the century.

Vardy first tasted success at the King Power Stadium in 2013/14 when Leicester City won promotion from the Championship.

A relegation battle followed in 2014/15 before the striker and his teammates shocked the world by winning the Premier League title.

He’s since won the FA Cup, Community Shield, and another promotion from the Championship last term.

In total, Vardy has scored a remarkable 198 goals for Leicester in all competitions while assisting a further 69.

However, there’s now speculation about the 38-year-old’s future amid his contract situation.

The Englishman is in the final few months of his Leicester contract and will be a free agent come the end of June as a result.

Man Utd fans reacted to the Vardy rumours and despite his age, most seemed open to the idea of a switch.

Leicester fans probably weren’t as thrilled at the thought of losing a club legend but no matter what transpires, it seems Vardy is keen to keep playing even though he will turn 39 next year.

Speaking late in 2024, as per Leicestershire Live, the number nine expressed his desire to not retire and while it will happen, he suggested it won’t be anytime soon.

He said: “I wish I couldn’t retire. Unfortunately it will happen one day. Just not yet.”

How Jamie Vardy compares to Manchester United strikers in Premier League

A team with the profile of Manchester United signing a player who, at the very most, seems to have one or two more years left of his career would be pretty odd.

However, if the reports are true that they are struggling financially, it’s easy to see why the Red Devils could be looking at the free-agent market to replace their current striker options.

Big money was paid out for both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but neither forward has lived up to expectations this season.

Appearances 22 19 24

Goals 7 2 3

Whatever happens in the final few months of this season though, it’s clear Leicester should be offering the club icon fresh terms.
