Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend

Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur away on Sunday afternoon. They head into the game on the back of their 2-1 win over Leicester City in the FA Cup last time out.

The Red Devils are sat in 13th place in the Premier League table. Ruben Amorim’s side will be aiming to have to some more consistency over the coming weeks.

United ended up having a quiet January transfer window and didn’t rush into any deals. They still have the chance to delve into the free agent market.

As per The Athletic, there may be a ‘temptation’ for United to ‘look’ at the free agency market in the summer given their financial position. The likes of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy are out of contract at the end of the season.

Calvert-Lewin, 27, is an experienced player in the Premier League and his future at Goodison Park is up in the air right now. The Toffees risk losing him in late June if they don’t agree an extension with him anytime soon.

The former Sheffield United man has been with Everton since joining them back in 2016 and he has since been a good servant to the Merseyside outfit. He has made 270 appearances in all competitions and has scored 71 goals, three of which have come in this campaign.

As for Vardy, it remains to be seen whether he will be sticking around with Leicester beyond this term. The Foxes are currently sat in the bottom three along with Southampton and Ipswich Town under Ruud van Nistelrooy and are facing a battle to survive.

He won the title back in 2016 and has also won the FA Cup in the past. However, at the age of 38, it would be a surprise to see him join United.

What now for Manchester United?

United head to Spurs as they look to pick up three points and boost their confidence. They didn’t play very well against Leicester and although they got the job done, they will want to perform better in their upcoming games.

Speaking after their victory over the Foxes, Amorim said: “We have to believe it until the end but this has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. I think we have to do so much better, with the ball, without the ball. We didn't have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half, we played a little bit better with a little bit more speed and winning second balls. Then we managed to turn things around and it was a good result but not a good performance."

He added: “I cannot focus just on saving the season with the momentum of the [FA] Cup. That's not the way I see football, it's not the way I see Manchester United. It's everything, it's the performance, it's the result. I'm not thinking about the end of the season now, because the final is at the end of the season. I don't care about that, I care about the moment.

"The moment is clearly not good enough. It's a good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare [for our next league game] but today was not a good day."
