Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend
Manchester United head down to London this weekend as they prepare for their latest Premier League match. They face an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur as they look to build some momentum and rise up the table.
The Red Devils are sat in 13th place in the table after a disappointing season so far. The fixtures are starting to come thick and fast as they search for some more consistency.
Ruben Amorim’s side won 2-1 at home to fellow top flight outfit Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out. Defender Harry Maguire scored a last-gasp winner at Old Trafford against his former club.
Gary Neville and Roy Keane in Manchester United prediction
On the latest episode of The Overlap, Gary Neville has predicted a 2-1 win for United against Spurs. Meanwhile, Roy Keane believes his former team will run out 3-1 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Red Devils decided against having a busy January transfer window and will wait until the summer to start making any drastic changes to their ranks. The rest of this term is about getting their confidence back and potentially winning a trophy or two if they can.
Amorim was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag earlier this winter and it has been a mixed start for the Portuguese head coach in England. He was appointed by his current club after catching the eye at Sporting Lisbon.
The past few years have been tough for United and they will hope he can steady the ship. They have spent too much money on players who just haven’t performed and are crying out for a bit of stability.
United’s upcoming opponents Spurs have been knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup recently. Their injury issues under Ange Postecoglou have been well documented and he is under pressure to start getting results.
What now for Manchester United
Everyone of a United persuasion will want to see a solid performance against Spurs first and foremost. There have been too many games where they haven’t been good enough.
Speaking after their victory over Leicester, Amorim said: “We have to believe it until the end but this has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. I think we have to do so much better, with the ball, without the ball. We didn't have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half, we played a little bit better with a little bit more speed and winning second balls. Then we managed to turn things around and it was a good result but not a good performance."
He added: “I cannot focus just on saving the season with the momentum of the [FA] Cup. That's not the way I see football, it's not the way I see Manchester United. It's everything, it's the performance, it's the result. I'm not thinking about the end of the season now, because the final is at the end of the season. I don't care about that, I care about the moment.
"The moment is clearly not good enough. It's a good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare [for our next league game] but today was not a good day."
