Manchester United Plot Swap Deal For“Complete”Striker Following Amorim’s Transfer Budget Admission

Manchester United are considering whether to propose a swap deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The Red Devils are strapped for cash and TBRFootball claim that the Manchester club may offer up both Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund to tempt Napoli into parting ways with their player.

Garnacho was a target for the Serie A league leaders in January, so there is a good chance that they would be open to taking him as part of the deal for Osimhen.

It remains to be seen whether they would also be interested in taking Hojlund, who has struggled for goals during his second season at Old Trafford.

Why can’t United pay Osimhen’s release clause?

After he was sent out on loan to Galatasaray, an agreement was reached between the striker and Napoli that he would be sold at the end of the season if a team paid €75m (£62.5m). That seems a reasonable fee for a player of his quality.

However, speaking about the club’s transfer budget on Friday, head coach Ruben Amorim admitted that the Red Devils are not in a position to spend:

“It is simple. To do something, we need to sell players.

For that reason, an exchange of players would probably be an easier deal to negotiate. Whether United should really be offering both Garnacho and Hojlund, considering their market value, though, it is up for debate.

Osimhen has been praised by a Chelsea legend

The Nigerian international has been in excellent form since joining Galatasaray, finding the back of the net 17 times in 23 appearances. His ability has been known for several years. Speaking back in 2023, Gianfranco Zola praised the forward:

“He’s a very complete player. He’s got a good reference going forward, he can link up play and he’s devastating in the air. He’s a pest to defenders.”
