Manchester United are back in Premier League action this weekend
Manchester United find themselves down in 13th place in the Premier League. It has been a mixed start for Ruben Amorim since his arrival at Old Trafford.
He was picked as the Red Devils’ replacement for Erik ten Hag earlier this winter. Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye in Portugal at Sporting Lisbon.
United won 2-1 at home to fellow top flight side Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup last time out. Harry Maguire scored a late winner against the Foxes.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou ahead of Manchester United trip
United are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur. Their upcoming opponents have also underperformed so far this season and have had their fair share of injury woes.
Pressure is mounting on their manager Ange Postecoglou to start getting some results. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last week.
Speaking ahead of their match against United, Postecoglou has said: “Some of the lads who have been out for quite a while look like they’re in a good place now. Vic (Guglielmo Vicario) is probably the one who has come back ahead of schedule.
"He’s been training really well away from the team for two weeks. In the last 10 days he’s integrated back into the team and is fully into training, so he’s in a good place and that means he becomes available for us.”
James Maddison and Destiny Udogie are back available for Spurs against the Red Devils. Meanwhile, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert are making good progress. Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison are sidelined still.
Postecoglou has shared this update: "Madders is a little bit ahead of schedule (in his recovery). He’s feeling really good. He’s had a good week of training. We were thinking maybe (it'll be) next week for him, but he’s trained really well all week, and he’s had the least amount of time out, so he’s looking in a good place.
"Of the longer-term (injuries), Destiny (Udogie) is back in team training as well, which is good. He’s ticked all the boxes in terms of getting through his rehab and conditioning, so he’s part of the squad."
What now for Manchester United?
United will be looking for some more consistency over the coming weeks and months. It has been a turbulent spell for the club and they need some stability.
They are still a work in progress and Amorim should get chance to really put his own stamp on the squad in the summer. He said last month: “Pre-season, creating, spending three weeks together, creating something, and then you want to create something new with the players. I want them to know me in a different way, not always preparing the matches with stress, we don't have the time to do that. I think it's really important and I think it's the secret of teams.
“Even when you have the best players, if you don't you have that feeling it's really hard to win so I want to build something like that here. But we need time from that.”
