Pundit says Manchester United player in “very sad situation” – Becoming very difficult to select

Christian Eriksen finds himself in a “very sad situation” at Manchester United, with it becoming very difficult to select him for the Danish national team.

That’s according to Thomas Gravesen, [via Ekstra Bladet](https://ekstrabladet.dk/), who laments Eriksen’s situation at Manchester United today and how it may be bringing his international career to an end.

Eriksen has found himself on the sidelines under Ruben Amorim since his arrival as Manchester United boss back in November.

The 33-year-old had been a regular under Erik ten Hag but has only managed eight appearances totalling 429 minutes under his replacement to date.

In fact, since Amorim’s appointment on November 1st, Eriksen has spent more time sat on the bench than anything else and has only managed one 90 minute appearance in the Premier League since then.

He does not appear to be a part of the Portuguese manager’s long-term plans for Manchester United, particularly in the 3-4-3 system that Amorim favours.

That’s a bad situation all round as far as Gravesen is concerned, as he laments that the lack of playing time at Old Trafford means selecting Eriksen for Denmark, where he is a national hero, becomes tougher to justify.

“A difficult, difficult situation for Christian Eriksen. When he finally gets a match every now and then, it’s a boost,” he said.

“He then got a match here the other day in Europe. It’s a very special situation. Now there is a very crucial period coming, when the national team will be selected, and where Eriksen has not played football, so for me it is a very sad situation, because Eriksen is one of our biggest stars and has been in the history of the national team.

“If he is going to end his career with the impression we are forming of him now, when he is not playing football and not a part of this wonderful game, then I will be sad.

“It will be extremely difficult to find a place for him if I were in charge, but there are so many things around Eriksen that it will be exciting to see.”
