Ruben Amorim sheds light on 'changes' Patrick Dorgu has to make at Man United

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has insisted that Patrick Dorgu has had a good week at Carrington despite having to make changes to his game.

Dorgu arrived from Serie A strugglers Lecce on the day before the January transfer window shut at the beginning of this month. He was promptly introduced to the United home fans before the defeat to Crystal Palace, before making his debut in the victory over Leicester City in the FA Cup.

The Danish international was signed to strengthen the left side of Amorim's defence, having noted that was a particular issue when he arrived in November. Tyrell Malacia was deemed unsuitable to play as a left wing-back in the United manager's new system, so he was sent on loan, with an obligation to buy, to PSV Eindhoven the day after deadline day in the UK.

Despite being signed to play on the left, Dorgu made his debut on the right for Amorim against the Foxes, which raised plenty of eyebrows, albeit he has played that side previously. Speaking ahead of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, which could mark the wide player's Premier League debut, Amorim explained why the 20-year-old still has areas of improvement to make.

"We work with him and he is understanding better the way we want to play," the Portuguese head coach explained. "He has some habits from the last club [Lecce].

"In the first moments, he has had to change things, but it has been a good week." Dorgu could start in North London on Sunday especially considering there could be a few absentees for the fixture.

Assessing his options, Amorim added: "We had some issues at the end of the week with players and that was the hardest part of the week. It was a good week to improve on physical aspects but also tactical aspects."
