Tottenham ace in contention to face Manchester United; backed to replace brilliant yet hopeless …

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario is fit and available for the visit of Man United

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury issues have been well documented with key players having missed large chunks of the campaign thus far.

Over the last week, Ange Postecoglou was without 11 first-team players because of injuries. He suffered a big blow recently when it was confirmed that Radu Dragusin’s season is over after sustaining an ACL injury.

Spurs have also received good news on the injury front this week, with the Greek-Aussie tactician confirming that Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Destiny Udogie have all returned to training and available for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday. He also added that wingers Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson have joined team training, with the latter closest to being ready for first-team action.

Tottenham No.1 Guglielmo Vicario is closing in on a return to action after months on the sidelines

Speaking about Guglielmo Vicario, the Tottenham No.1 is among the players who have missed the most games due to injuries. The Italian suffered an ankle fracture during Spurs’ 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. He underwent an ankle surgery in late November and has been sidelined since then.

Now closing in on a return to first-team action, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King thinks Antonin Kinsky could be dropped to the bench in favour of Vicario.

“Vicario needs to start against United,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Kinsky has cost Tottenham in the games against Liverpool and Aston Villa. At Anfield, he should have been catching the ball when he was punching and punching when he was trying to catch it. He is putting the team under pressure all the time.

“At Villa Park, you saw the difference between a top keeper and one who isn’t sure if he is going to be a regular or not. Kinsky is still young, that is fair enough. However, Spurs needed a bit of experience in those two games, and he was going from brilliant to hopeless and hopeless back to brilliant again.”

Antonin Kinsky has struggled in recent cup defeats to Liverpool and Aston Villa

Truly, Kinsky—signed from Slavia Prague at the start of January as cover for the injured Vicario, enjoyed a positive start to life in North London. His debut against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final was a kind of baptism of fire but the young shot-stopper delivered a promising display and kept a clean sheet.

However, Kinsky has struggled in recent games. The Czech Republic Under-21 international made a few glaring errors in last week’s back-to-back cup defeats to Liverpool and Aston Villa. it did look like Vicario would struggle to regain his spot in the XI when he returns from injury, but Kinsky’s recent showings illustrate that he is still a young goalkeeper with plenty of room for improvement.
