Manchester United send firm warning to staff,'damaging'leaks lead to restructuring meeting

It’s an eerie period for Manchester United staff.

There have been lots of changes at Manchester United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his company acquired a minority stake in the football club in February 2024.

Ineos are introducing cost-cutting strategies across the board, including Ratcliffe’s decision to make 250 employees redundant in the summer, in an attempt to clean up the mess made by the Glazer family.

United fans have also complained about increased ticket prices, and season ticket holders have plenty of reason to fear more hikes are imminent.

However, it was leaked in a BBC report during the week that between 100 and 200 more employees will be made redundant as part of the restructuring process carried out by Ineos.

These reports only spread further uncertainty for current staff, who have yet to be given any notice from the football club.

Manchester United warn staff over leaks

Ineos chiefs are unhappy with the leaks coming out of the club.

On top of the leaks in the roof at Old Trafford, Ratcliffe and his team may need to find the source of the leaks coming from inside the club.

According to The Telegraph, United have warned that leaks over drastic cuts are “damaging to colleagues and the wider club” in an email sent to all staff on Friday.

The email stressed how disappointed Ineos are with the information about club issues reaching the media before staff were made aware of any changes.

Such delicate information should have been briefed to all staff before it was published in every newspaper.

Ineos arrange restructuring meeting

The email in question announced a restructuring meeting later this month.

A “team briefing” will take place on February 24 as United discuss plans to reduce costs and raise revenue.

Ratcliffe attended a Fan Advisory Board meeting on Friday, which was his second since becoming co-owner, as he continues to meet fans face-to-face to explain his decisions.

It’s one of the biggest positives from Ineos because the Glazers rarely communicate with fans.

United staff will have to wait until Monday afternoon to find out exactly what changes they will face. They will be conscious of the fact that Ratcliffe signed off on a 250-person cull last summer.
