Manchester United could move quickly to seal deal for 17-year-old Amorim protege

Manchester United are keen to act fast to get the Geovany Quenda deal over the line.

Manchester United are reportedly pushing to secure a deal for Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda ahead of potential summer competition. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils are keen to reunite manager Ruben Amorim with the highly-rated 17-year-old at Old Trafford next season and could make an early move to secure his signing.

While reports from Portugal suggest that an agreement is already in place, Jacobs clarifies that negotiations are ongoing as United attempt to match Sporting’s valuation. Given that Quenda’s release clause has reportedly increased to £83 million following his recent contract extension, United are working to strike a pre-agreement that would allow them to finalize the deal before the summer window opens.

“It may move relatively quickly because if things progress how Manchester United hope, and they get the kind of valuation that they’re looking for, they are prepared to try and pre-agree that one now to ward off other summer competition,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.

Quenda’s history with Amorim

Quenda has become one of Europe’s most promising young wingers since making his senior debut for Sporting CP under Amorim last year. The Portuguese talent has already made 37 appearances across all competitions, contributing to nine goals and proving his ability at the top level.

Described as a ‘frightening’ prospect, Quenda has impressed with his pace, dribbling, and attacking intelligence. His potential arrival at Old Trafford would mark United’s second wing-back addition in recent months, following the signing of Danish defender Patrick Dorgu, who joined the club in January on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

Smart Move, But Is It a Priority?

If Manchester United can secure Quenda ahead of the summer window, it would be a significant coup for the club, ensuring they avoid a transfer battle with other European heavyweights. His connection with Amorim makes him an exciting prospect, particularly in a system where he has already thrived.

However, given United’s pressing need for reinforcements in key positions, including a first-choice striker and a deep-lying midfielder, questions remain about whether Quenda should be a top priority. While his talent is undeniable, United must balance their spending wisely, ensuring they address their immediate squad weaknesses before investing heavily in future prospects.

As negotiations continue, it will be interesting to see whether United accelerate their pursuit of Quenda or wait until the summer to finalize a move.
