Arsenal make contact to sign 20-goal Manchester United target

Arsenal have reportedly made contact with Atalanta for star striker Mateo Retegui, with Manchester United also keen on the Italian international.

According toCaught Offside, Arsenal are interested in Mateo Retegui and have made contact with Atalanta about a move. Manchester United are also keen on the prolific Italian striker, with the Bergamo side likely to have a big fight on their hands to keep hold of their top scorer.

Arsenal are accelerating their efforts to sign a new striker early next summer following their failure to land one during the January window. The Gunners are intent on solving a problem solution next summer, although currently, they are shorthanded in personnel following Kai Havertz’s season-ending injury.

There are a host of names mentioned as potential targets, including some old ones from the summer and January windows.Benjamin Sesko remains an important target, while Mikel Arteta continues to dream about signing Alexander Isak for Arsenal, as his price tag is likely to be prohibitive in the summer.

There are some other names mentioned, like Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, although there are doubts that Arsenal have any realistic interest in those attackers. One striker they might return to is Ollie Watkins, as Arsenal failed with a late bid for the Aston Villa star, as he could still be an option for them.

Meanwhile, they are also keeping tabs on the situation with Mateo Retegui, who continued to have a stellar season in Serie A with 23 goal contributions in 22 appearances for Atalanta this term. The Gunners were among the teams that scouted the striker earlier, and now it appears they have made contact with Atalanta regarding a potential move next summer.

Arsenal interested in Manchester United target Mateo Retegui

Arsenal could potentially consider approaching Retegui, given his prolific season, as well as a potential price tag of €60 million. At that rate, the Italian will be seen as a cheaper alternative to most of their other targets, which might be the reason for their chase.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are among those interested in Retregui alongside other names. The Red Devils have good relations with Atalanta following a recent business involving Rasmus Hojlund, which could potentially give them an advantage in the race. However, without Champions League football, they might lose out on players like Retegui to other rivals like Arsenal.
