Kevin Danso has told his new Tottenham team-mates that he is living proof tough times don't last forever.

The 26-year-old Austrian defender, a late January signing from Lens, has a track record for overcoming setbacks and is confident the future looks bright for Spurs.

Danso, whose transfer to Roma collapsed in August over a heart scare flagged during his medical, said: “Every experience that I’ve gone through in my life has helped me to get where I am today. I hope they will help the club now as well.

"Obviously the results have not been the best and there’s still an element of settling in for myself. But I think in a maximum of one or two more games, I'll be fully up to speed.

"I know what the league is like and hopefully I can bring a bunch of experience because I’ve played all over Europe now, I’ve played at the Euros and that’s just going to help me, ultimately.

“I can see the potential of the team, even though the results haven’t really shown that. We’ve got a lot of players missing but the character is there, the willingness is there and we can only be positive moving forward."

Spurs' depleted ranks will be bolstered by the timely returns of James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for Sunday's visit of Manchester United while Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner have also returned to first-team training.

While key defensive duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain sidelined, Danso believes there is no time like the present and feels victory against United could mark a line in the sand for Ange Postecoglou's strugglers.

Ex-Southampton loanee Danso continued: “With the situation we’re in now, I know it’s just a momentary thing and that better times are still to come. I hope with the game today [against United] it really turns in our favour and obviously I want to play my own role in that.

“I’m really looking forward to playing at home. We’ve just had the two away games, obviously it’s always difficult, but with the home support that extra push can really help us to win the game and I think that’s exactly what we need, so I’m looking forward to it. It feels amazing to be here.”

Danso joined Spurs on an initial loan from Lens that will become permanent for £20.9million in the summer when he's poised to pen a five-year contract.
