Manchester United will travel to north London with a weakened squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday
Tottenham Hotspur welcome Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in what is a massive Premier League game for both struggling clubs.
Both Spurs and the Red Devils would’ve started the season with the aim of qualifying for the Champions League, but that looks a distant dream now. A chaotic game is on the cards with both teams coming into this fixture with depleted squads.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has suffered a quadruple injury blow ahead of the trip to Tottenham. In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Amorim hinted at some issues and with four new blows emerging, it will seemingly be a weakened squad that travels down to north London.
According to a report from The Athletic, Man United midfielders Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer have picked up injuries in training earlier this week. Mainoo’s injury is expected to keep him out of action for a couple of weeks, while Ugarte and Collyer are major doubts for the game.
Fabrizio Romano opens up on the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Manuel Ugarte.
Man United midfielder Manuel Ugarte is a big doubt for the game vs Spurs
Mainoo and Ugarte have been important cogs in Amorim’s side since the 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield at the start of January, while academy starlet Collyer has emerged as a promising option, making two starts and four substitute appearances in recent weeks. The trio’s loss could see the Portuguese tactician reinstate Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in his starting XI since the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at home on December 30.
In another major setback, Amad Diallo could reportedly miss the rest of the season with ankle ligament damage. The 22-year-old has been the Red Devils’ best player since the arrival of Amorim with 11 goal contributions picked up over the last few months. The Ivorian has been utilised at wing-back and as part of the front three with regular solid performances arriving during that period.
Amad posted an emotional message on his X account on Saturday to confirm the injury. Man United are still assessing the full extent of the issue, but the Abidjan-born talent will be out for several weeks and potentially not return this season.

Big Ange will be delighted to welcome back some key stars against Man United
These setbacks have weakened Amorim’s side, who could struggle with Tottenham’s high-pressing, attacking brand of football. Ange Postecoglou, in contrast to the United boss, has delivered positive updates on the injury front with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Destiny Udogie fit and available for the game. Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner also trained with the team earlier this week and remain in contention to face United.

Tottenham are no strangers to injury concerns with Big Ange having to do so without key first-XI stars for months now. Nonetheless, we cannot take United lightly despite beating them twice this season. In fact, Big Ange is unbeaten against the Mancunian giants as a Spurs boss and will want to continue that record on Sunday.
