Patrick Dorgu shares what he has already noticed about Man Utd training as Lecce ace makes‘great’ prediction

Manchester United are hoping to see Patrick Dorgu become an Old Trafford superstar after completing his January move from Lecce.

Ruben Amorim would no doubt love the freedom and funds to rip this Manchester United squad apart.

That just isn’t possible though and January was a relatively careful month for United whilst still trying to back Amorim.

Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu arrived at United with high hopes for the future.

Marcus Rashford and Antony were headline departures with United sacrificing attacking numbers for defensive prospects.

Heaven may well get a chance amid Lisandro Martinez’s knee injury but more will be expected of Dorgu right away.

Lecce star on Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu

Dorgu joined United for around £30million and made his debut against Leicester City in the FA Cup last week.

The Dane was hoping for an immediate impact but was substituted at half time in favour of Alejandro Garnacho.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Dorgu started on the right flank in that game and will be brought along gradually by Amorim.

A trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday may bring Dorgu’s first Premier League start as a United player and he has now been praised by a former teammate in Italy.

Lecce defender Federico Baschirotto has told Tuttomercatoweb that he thinks Dorgu has ‘great potential’ for the future.

Baschirotto saw Dorgu up close at Lecce and feels that the left wing back can play on the right side – and even as a winger having been tested there by former Lecce boss Luca Gotti.

Baschirotto added that Dorgu must improve his defensive play but predicts a ‘great career’ for the 20-year-old.

“Dorgu has great potential – young and promising,” said Baschirotto.

“He has many offensive qualities, we saw it when Gotti positioned him as an attacking winger. There he demonstrated great skills, he needs to improve the defensive phase but he is an all-rounder. Wherever you put him he does well.

“Even in training he has never held back, he is a calm and serene boy off the pitch. I think he will have a great career, he just needs to continue working with his head on the ground. I wish him the best,” he added.

Dorgu is settling in at Old Trafford and will certainly hope to make Baschirotto’s prediction come true.

That will take some time though and Dorgu must bring himself up to speed with Premier League action.

Speaking to MUTV, Dorgu has admitted that he has already noticed a step up in quality around United – even in training.

Dorgu feels that rise in expectation levels from Lecce to United even this early into this time at Old Trafford, believing that he has to deliver in every single session.

“I haven’t been here long enough but yeah, I can already feel in the training that there are more expectations for you and you have to deliver in every training session,” said Dorgu.

Amorim has praised Dorgu’s progress this week but feels that he still has some habits from his time at Lecce.

United knew that Dorgu wasn’t the finished product and Amorim will be looking to mould him into the ideal wing back moving forward.
