Luckhurst: Why Chido Obi could be in the Manchester United squad vs Tottenham

There have been ten goals in the two games between Tottenham and Manchester United already this season and Spurs could have tallied double the three they scored at Old Trafford.

That afternoon in September made it a matter of time until Erik ten Hag was sacked but United conceded four against Spurs under Ruben Amorim in the League Cup two months ago.

United have injury problems to monitor before kick-off today, though Amorim was unclear on which players have issues ahead of their first game in nine days.

Here are five things to look out for at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

**Who's out?**

"We had some problems also," Amorim said on Friday. "So we don’t have players back, maybe we have one or two issues but we are waiting.

"We have one player also who is sick so we will see the team at the weekend. But was good to work with the team, to feel the players and to try to improve our performance."

Amorim did not mention which players had issues.

**Who's in?**

"I don't want to say names because we have to be careful with that," Amorim stressed. "They are working with us. We had some problems this week, we called some young players to be in our training so we will have the data and evaluation and he is one of them."

He is Chido Obi, the only name Amorim would cough up relating to United's squad issues. The 17-year-old striker plundered a hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday and his potential promotion possibly suggested Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee were one of the doubts. But they have both travelled to London and Zirkzee has as well.

**Expect the unexpected?**

Amorim did not even hint at which areas United have injury concerns. His teams are difficult enough to predict with a transparent team news bulletin so surmising today's XI is nigh-on impossible.

Patrick Dorgu was "nervous" during his debut half against Leicester, according to Amorim, so Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui could be the wingers again. Zirkzee - if fit - would be a logical recall after another harmless Hojlund performance.

**End a winless run?**

Until the December derby, United had failed to win at any of the old 'big six' clubs since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last win as the club's manager at Tottenham in October 2021.

Two days after that, Spurs sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and it looked like they could have had a new face in the dugout for today's game. Spurs are sticking by Ange Postecoglou for now but he appears to be past the point of no return.

He does, however, have a fine record against United: four wins, one draw and no defeats. United are winless in three at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

**Comic relief?**

This match has high comedic potential, going off the teams' plights and the League Cup quarter-final in December when Altay Bayindir and Fraser Forster attempted to outdo each other for worst goalkeeper on the pitch.

It ended 4-3 to Spurs yet United were the more accomplished side for the majority. Their problem was they did not take their chances and that remains their biggest problem two months on.

Spurs should be a more imposing side this afternoon. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Destiny Udogie could all be back.
