The latest Fantasy Premier League injury news, with updates on Erling Haaland, Marcus Rashford, Son Heung-Min and more.
With just four weeks of the Fantasy Premier League season left, every last knock and injury issue suddenly becomes a major headache – after all, if your players miss one match, that’s 25% of all the points they could score out of the window in one go. To make life a little easier, therefore, we’re here with all the latest updates on the injured and returning players that FPL players need to worry about.
Erling Haaland and Son Heung-Min are among the big-name players closing in on a comeback after injuries, while the likes of Marcus Rashford, James Maddison and Robert Sánchez are all flagged as doubts, so we’ve listened in to the press conferences and scoured the media for updates to make sure you’ve got the latest news.
Of course, injuries aren’t all you need to worry about this week. Arne Slot has said that he will rotate his squad somewhat over the coming weeks having wrapped up the Premier League title, so Mohamed Salah’s minutes may be at risk to some extent, and most pundits expect Arsenal to rest Bukayo Saka between legs of their Champions League semi-final against PSG.
To help you navigate everything, our resident FPL expert’s latest advice column can be found by clicking here – but for now, let’s concentrate on players with medical concerns…
Erling Haaland
After being sidelined for five weeks with a serious ankle injury, the Norwegian goal machine is back in training and inching his way towards a return that may also curtail Omar Marmoush’s minutes – but it doesn’t sound like Haaland will be back for Friday night’s match against Wolves.
The striker may be “getting better”, as Pep Guardiola put it, but he added that “I don’t think [Haaland will] play tonight” – but that “hopefully” he would be back very soon. Suitably non-specific, but it sounds as though there’s every chance that he’ll be in action for the final three games of the campaign.
Marcus Rashford
Reports earlier this week suggested that on-loan Aston Villa forward Marcus Rashford would be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury that’s expected to require surgery, and he’s already travelled to Dubai to begin his rehabilitation.
He certainly won’t feature this weekend and if he does indeed require surgery then his season is sadly over. If you were one of the players who took a chance on him, it’s sadly time to sell. Marco Asensio and Morgan Rogers at least provide viable and potentially valuable alternatives.
Son Heung-Min, James Maddison & Dominic Solanke
Both Maddison and Solanke picked up knocks in Thursday night’s win over Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League, with Maddison experiencing “a tweak in his knee” that will require a scan. We don’t know if he has any chance of playing, but it doesn’t sound great and was described as “a concern”. Solanke endured “something similar in his quad” and while he’s “not too bad”, Postecoglou acknowledged that he was “a doubt for the weekend.”
It sounds like FPL favourite Son isn’t in great shape, either, sadly - he’s back in training as he recovers from a foot injury but based on Postecoglou’s remark that “we’ll see if he’s available for Thursday”, he very probably won’t be in action against West Ham.
Antonee Robinson
The American left-back has been one of the best attacking full-backs in the game this season, but he was a surprise omission from Fulham’s squad last week – mercifully for his owners, it sounds like it was a one-off. Marco Silva has said that Robinson is “going to be available” to face Villa on Saturday, but striker Rodrigo Muniz remains out, probably for at least two weeks.
Robert Sánchez
The much-maligned goalkeeper – who actually has the Premier League’s highest save percentage this season, strangely enough – has a knock and may miss out on Sunday’s game against Liverpool. For the 6.5% of players who have him, he will “be assessed” ahead of the game. Christopher Nkunku is in exactly the same position, for the very few players clinging grimly onto his status as a potential pre-season bargain. You can disembark that ship now. It’s sailed.
Kaoru Mitoma & Jan Paul van Hecke
A few Brighton defenders are always in the cheap enabler mix, and Van Hecke is perhaps the most prominent amongst them. Luckily, the Dutchman is “ready to start”, according to Fabian Hürzeler, while Joël Veltman, Igor and Tariq Lamptey are apparently able to play a full 90 minutes as well. Kaoru Mitoma, always on the watchlist, is “in the same boat” and should feature.
Sven Botman
Good news and bad news for Newcastle fans this weekend – the good news is that Sven Botman, once a very popular FPL asset before injuries began to mount, is in contention to start after coming off the bench against Ipswich Town last weekend. The bad news is that Joelinton is probably out for the rest of the season due to a knee issue. The 1.2% of FPL players who have decided to put the defensive midfielder in their team deserve to be made aware…
