_Morning Joe_ host **Joe Scarborough** unleashed on the Trump administration over the “insane” reports that deportee **Jose Reyes Barrios** was “wrongly identified as a gang member” and sent to El Salvador over his Real Madrid soccer tattoo.
MSNBC contributor **Pablo Torre** relayed Reyes Barrios’s [story](https://www.npr.org/2025/03/27/nx-s1-5341544/ice-el-salvador-jerce-reyes-barrios) during Friday’s show, explaining how the 36-year-old professional soccer player and coach from Venezuela had “legally requested asylum” in the U.S. after fleeing violence in his home country.
“And this is a guy who was identified, Joe, as we often see in these stories, by simply a tattoo,” Torre said. “A tattoo, in fact, inspired by his favorite team – Real Madrid.”
“Real Madrid!” Scarborough declared as the tattoo image alongside the team’s logo appeared on screen.
Torre continued: “He’s a goalie who coached kids, with a family of his own, and he got disappeared because he was trying to pay homage to his favorite soccer team. It is insane. Absolutely insane.”
He added: “And when we asked the Department of Homeland Security about this, they would not reveal any specific information. They said it would be insane, in fact, if we gave information about the people that we know are terrorists anytime they claim to not be one.”
“Terrorists are Real Madrid fans,” Scarborough mockingly offered.
“Apparently,” Torre replied.
Scarborough continued: “I mean, seriously, it’s crazy. You know, this has been quite a week in uncovering exactly what’s happening. The further we get out, the more we learn. _The New York Times_ reporting this week that even the self-described dictator of El Salvador was like: ‘Whoa, now, listen’ – well he didn’t say it exactly this way, but – ‘I want to make sure there’s due process here for these people. Don’t send people to my prison unless they’ve been convicted in your prisons.'”
Scarborough added: “Like, even, again, a self-described dictator saying, ‘I don’t want people down here in this prison unless they are gang members and they are criminals and they have been convicted.'”
“We have a dictator more concerned than some people in the U.S. government about who’s getting sent to El Salvador,” the host sniped.
