Chelsea make decision on future of £225 million duo amid Real Madrid, Saudi links

Chelsea will not entertain any bids to part ways with first-choice central midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have piqued the attention of big-spending clubs. The former is a target for Real Madrid, while Saudi Pro League outfits are keen on signing the Ecuadorian international. However, Chelsea will not entertain any offers to part ways with the first-choice midfielders in the summer transfer window.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo: Forming a budding partnership at Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have established themselves as pivotal figures for Chelsea despite being slow off the blocks in 2023. The duo are the two most expensive signings in the West London club’s history, costing a combined £225 million. Fernandez arrived at Stamford Bridge after a successful campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Chelsea forked out £110 million to sign the 24-year-old midfielder from SL Benfica in January 2023. Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo cost an eye-watering £115 million when he arrived from Brighton & Hove Albion six months after Fernandez. The duo have formed a successful central midfield partnership at the West London club.

However, recent reports have suggested that Fernandez and Caicedo are targets for big-spending clubs heading into the summer transfer window. Real Madrid will aim to sign the former from Chelsea, while Saudi Pro League bigwigs are keen on signing Caicedo.

Summer exit possible?

Real Madrid’s interest in Enzo Fernandez is understandable. The Merengues are keen on solving their midfield issues, which have cropped up since Toni Kroos called time on his glittering career last summer. So, the Chelsea midfielder is a viable target for Real Madrid.

As for Caicedo, recent reports suggested Chelsea might entertain offers for the Ecuadorian international amid his links with Saudi Pro League clubs. However, the Blues do not want to part ways with the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder. Fernandez is also not on sale at the West London club.

So, even though Chelsea can recoup a significant sum from the central midfield duo’s sale in the summer transfer window, the Blues have no interest in cashing in on them in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid and Saudi Pro League clubs must look elsewhere for new midfielders this summer.
