Abner Vinicius is a player to watch. The 24 year old and a Brazil full international. Abner received his first call up to the Brazil national team late last year. It was for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. The games were against Chile and Peru. He made his debut on 10 October 2024 against Chile.
He had just joined French club Lyon. He was signed from Real Betis for a fee of €8million. The move was inspired by the fact that Brazil has a good connection to Lyon.
He said; “I think Lyon has a connection with Brazil. There have always been a lot of Brazilian players here who have made history. I know what the Brazilians mean to Lyon. It’s a fruitful connection. I always say that you have to plant to reap good fruit. I want to write my name here. I know I’m the 27th Brazilian player in Lyon’s history. I want to continue, to grow, to write my story and to achieve my goals with the club.”
He continued and explained the following; “The first contacts were easy. The first time David called me with my agent, my eyes lit up because I know how great Olympique Lyonnais is. For me, for my family, for all Brazilians, it’s always been an opportunity, a desire to join a great club. Lyon gave me that opportunity, so I embraced it and so did my family. As soon as I made contact, I wanted to be there. I wanted to be part of this challenge, part of the greatness of this club. I immediately felt what a great club could be, to experience something in a different atmosphere. I wanted this challenge for my career and I’m sure it will go well.”

In his first season at the French club he has experienced a lot. Reaching the quarter finals of the Europa League must have been a great experience. In the end losing that massive clash to Man Utd.
